When your dog barks, Bark Back plays that same bark straight back: nothing else, just their own voice, answered. A bark that answers back is something new, and many dogs stop mid-flow, listen, and go and investigate. Every exchange is filmed, so you can see exactly what your dog did.
What Bark Back does
Prop your iPhone where your dog spends their time and start a session. Bark Back listens, and each bark is played straight back: the same bark, not a recording of some other dog. It interrupts rather than corrects, and some dogs pause and go looking for where it came from.
The camera is already rolling before the bark, so each clip holds the run-up, the bark, the echo and the reaction. You get to see what your dog actually did rather than remember it afterwards.
Same setup, same listening, no echo. Watch sessions are how you tell whether the echo is responsible for anything, or whether it was the time of day, the weather or whatever set your dog off in the first place.
Barking you can measure beats barking you remember. Bark Back records barks a minute and the longest quiet stretch in every session, so Echo and Watch sit side by side and you can read the difference, including when there isn't one.
Every reaction becomes a share-ready vertical clip, framed on the dog: the bark, the echo, and the look on their face when it lands. Sharing is free and unlimited, on every tier.
Pair a Bluetooth speaker and the echo comes from across the room instead of from the phone in the corner. It is the single change that makes the most difference to whether a dog takes any notice.

Bark Back is a native iPhone app built by Itch.studio on a single capture session, with on-device sound classification driving the response and the clip written as the session runs. No servers, no accounts, and nothing about your dog leaving your phone.
Kind by design
The guardrails below are part of the product, not settings to be turned off. They are identical on the free and paid tiers, and no version of Bark Back will ever sell a louder echo, a shorter gap between replies or a longer session.
Playback volume has a hard ceiling that no control in the app can push past, responses are spaced by an automatic cooldown, and sessions are time-limited. No ultrasonic tones and no aversive sounds, ever.
Pinned ears, a tucked tail, lip-licking or leaving the room means stop the session. The app says so plainly, in onboarding and in the welfare guidance, and that guidance is free for everyone.
Dogs get used to novelty. If the echo is doing something for your dog, that may well fade over the weeks; a line that drifts back up is ordinary, not a fault. Some dogs won't respond at all, and Bark Back will show you that too.

Listening, echoing, filming and sharing are free and unlimited, for good, as are Watch sessions and the welfare guidance. Pro sells finding out, not a better outcome for your dog: the echo, the volume ceiling, the cooldowns and the session limits are the same on every tier.

Your data stays yours
Bark Back has no account and no server of its own. Sessions, clips and recordings live on your device, and Pro sync goes through your own iCloud, so we never hold them. No tracking, no analytics, no data collection.
What Bark Back will and won't tell you
Bark Back won't tell you the echo worked. It shows you what was actually recorded, and that is not proof the echo caused it, because time of day, the weather and whatever set your dog off all move the same numbers. For some dogs the honest answer will be that nothing much changed.
